Environment

Redbee is committed to reduce its environmental footprint as much as possible. We try to reduce our negative impact to a minimum level.

Datacenter

Two of our datacenters, Equinix and COLT, have committed to the Longtime Energy Efficiency agreement. In this agreement companies agree with the Department of Economic Affairs that they increase their energy usage by 2 percent each year until 2020. The final target is to readch an efficiency increase of 50% in 2030.

Hardware

When we renew our servers and our customers equipment, we always make a tradeoff between powerusage and performance. If possible we try to virtualize as much as possible, to reach an efficient utilization of our infrastructure. Also we try to use low-voltage CPU's wherever possible. Hardware that is not actively use, is switched off to reduce power usage. It is our intention to reduce the powerusage per server.

Operation

Redbee not only aims at reducing the power usage in the datacenter, we also try to do so in our day to day operation. We stimulate the use of public transport, and offer our staff to use Greenwheels cars when public transport falls short. For shorter distances we have a OV-fiets (Public transport bike) subscription. Of course this is not just out of idealistic motives, in our experience public transport and bikes are more efficient and faster then the car.

Furthermore we try to reduce our paper trail by offering electronic invoices. We use this ourselves whenever possible.
